NERVOUS SYSTEM REGULATION TECHNIQUES

Nervous system regulation techniques can and will transform your life when you choose to implement these healthy strategies into your life. To overcome stress and trauma, we must create a safe space within us and allow our bodies to feel and heal. Anxiety, depression, and mental illness, to me, are stagnant and built-up negative energies in need of clearing and removal. Once the negative energy has been removed from our bodies, our minds begin to clear up and direct us towards our true life’s purpose.

When we are depressed, anxious, and miserable, we are stuck living a life we hate. This self-hatred cycle does not fulfil our higher selves, and through energy cleansing and nervous system regulation techniques, we can heal from the inside out. Below, I have curated my most effective energy-cleansing techniques to regulate an overstimulated nervous system and allow you to relax and feel safe within your own body. The time to heal is now. You deserve to feel ultimate fulfilment, and the strategies below will help you do so. It’s your time to shine!

Acupuncture

Most people think of needles and pain when they hear acupuncture. As a self-confessed, needle-phobic girl, I can assure you it’s nothing like you think it is. These micro, and I mean microneedles, are perfectly placed throughout your body to release stagnant and toxic energy your mind cannot clear. Sometimes, we need physical help to release emotional distress, and acupuncture clears stagnant energy and chronic illness in ways I have never experienced before. When you lay down for an hour, your body is forced to rest and release any emotional or physical trauma; this can create an oversensitivity to cry or feel euphoric and relaxed as if you were drugged in the best way possible. Acupuncture heals and frees the mind better than any drug can; if you feel anxious, stressed, chronically ill or in pain, I would suggest finding a great acupuncturist near you. The keywords great, family or friend recommendations are always helpful. Instead of leaning towards wine or overindulgent food in times of stress, try acupuncture and see how much relief you get from such a magical stress-relieving technique. If there is one technique, I want you to adopt this one. You can thank me later. :)

Whole Food Diet

This seems like common sense, but diet contributes to how we see ourselves. Eating highly processed foods makes you feel tired, heavy, and unsatisfied with your physical appearance. In a world of body positivity, I don’t particularly agree with glamourising obesity; being overweight isn’t physically healthy, nor does it feel good. Consuming a whole-food diet rich in high-quality protein, nuts, seeds, legumes, vegetables, and whole grains will transform your quality of life and mental endurance. You do not need a drug to lose weight and become naturally slim. You need a whole-food diet with minimally processed food. A treat is always welcome; however, the more natural you become with your diet, the less processed food you crave, and you realise processed food doesn’t feel good inside your body. A healthy mind starts with a healthy body, so prioritise high-quality whole foods and start worshipping your body with high-quality nutrients you enjoy eating.

Kava Supplement

Kava is nature’s valium. In my opinion, it’s the most underrated supplement on the market, and it works much better than magnesium or ashwagandha. You can buy kava on Amazon or at a chemist's warehouse, and it does wonders for regulating high-stress levels. Take one a day or more if need be, and see how calm you become. Kava is nature's valium, and I could not recommend it more.

Chakra Healing Music

I love putting on a chakra healing playlist at home or while walking to create a relaxing environment for myself. I find a soundtrack I connect to on YouTube or Spotify and play it as background noise to regulate my nervous system and subconsciously clear out any negative energy. Music can heal us, so find a playlist you connect to and put it on as you work from home, clean, walk, or scroll social media online. It sets a nice vibe and really relaxes the soul.

Crystal Bath

I like to charge my crystals under the full and new moon. I write my manifestations out and place them under my crystals for the moon to charge and receive them. I then, with my newly activated crystals, have a bath with them. This may sound odd; however, depending on my intention, I will use rose quartz crystals, blue crystals or clear quartz crystals to recharge my body as it is submerged in water. Blue crystals are great for calming the body; clear quartz helps balance emotions, and rose quartz helps with self-love. I suggest finding a crystal you connect with and putting it in the bath with you to create a super-healing tonic your body can soak in. Running water and crystals are both energy; this energy will charge and empower you. Put scented bath salts in the water on high-stress days, and add your crystals and candlelight to relax and recharge.

Herbal Tea

I have a cabinet full of herbs and teas; sometimes, I create my own tea blends and other times, I use high-quality premade tea blends. Teas are an incredible healing tonic we can consume daily, depending on our desired outcome. I love green tea in the morning, something floral in the afternoon and anything mint at night. I am not a coffee or soda drinker; I drink tea to balance my mood and heal my body. While living with endometriosis, I took herbalism seriously and experimented with several different herbal teas (most tasted awful but worked well). Teas and herbs have unique healing powers depending on your needs. Some can heal hormones; others relieve bloating and gut health-related issues. If you want to wind down at night, drink lavender and camomile tea before bed. If you want a caffeine-free alternative, try rooibos tea or dandelion root tea, and if you want something a little caffeinated but will not send you down an anxious spiral, try chai tea or green tea. Herbal tea keeps your skin and body glowing, so try swapping soda and coffee for tea and see how well they help heal you.
